Torun Tower is a Class-A office development in the financial district of Istanbul, Şişli. The building covers an area of 106.080 m2 in 32 floors as well as lobby, retail and lateral office spaces at the first three levels.

The tower is distinctive in the skyline with the brise soleils extending from the exterior of the glazing.

BDS Consulting was engaged to provide building acoustics, noise control and façade consultancy services for the prestigious project.

Before designing a bespoke unitized facade system, integrated with brise soleils BDS analysed the enclosure, which is composed of storey high glass panels to optimize not only the shading elements but also the glazing itself so that the risk of glare and overheating by direct sunlight is limited along with the need of artificial lighting in the open-office area.

Good acoustics is also a key factor to successful buildings. Working closely with the client and other project stake holders BDS provided starightforward solutions to noise and vibration issues of the building.

High-rise offices like Torun Tower have lots of building services equipment such as chillers, water pumps, diesel generators, fans and lifts which are common noise generators. These type of equipment amplify and transmit structure-borne noise from the facilities installed inside. Identifying the acoustical scope of work at the early stages of design with the members of the architectural and MEP team is crucial to avoid otherwise costly remedial work.  ”

Bespoke Unitized Curtain Wall

Selective glass along with brise soleil provides daylight while reducing the energy consumption.

Skylight and Window-wall

A window-wall encloses the façades of lateral offices which are over looking to a semi enclosed courtyard covered by a steel framed Class 1 rated skylight system.

Controlling Sound Environment

Good acoustics is essential to productivity.
BDS provided practical solutions to noise from building services such as internal plant rooms, pumps, power generators and other sources.

Given the location of the building, a key factor in the acoustic performance is controlling the environmental noise. BDS investigated the environmental noise along with other design factors and provided optimum glazing solution.
